He simply assists the referee in assembling all the information SO THAT THE REFEREE CAN MAKE THE DECISION. Sounds like this referee was equally ill-informed. If he didn't agree with the send-off, he shouldn't have done it. It's that simple. I have taken a new approach to people who complain - I let them know that they are welcome to certify and take my job, but I will never let an adult get on a kid. I had the same thing this weekend, but with a youth I was "mentoring" on his third assignment as referee (I was AR1). Coach starts in with the personal comments to the young guy (who did great, BTW) and got a personal dressing down from me. AMEN!
